For comparison: making public transport free in The Netherlands will cost 4 billion annually, but that was deemed ‘impossibly expensive’. Plus we also need budget cuts on health and education every year.

For context, the total Dutch government budget for 2023 is 395 billion. So this represents 9.5 per cent of government spending.
