The amount of communists in this thread is simply astonishing. I thought we had accepted the concept of property rights. Why even stop at immovable property and not movable?

Alright, you had me convinced until the sentence “the writing is sub Bethesda”.
Yeah…no.

Most startups are funded by large / rich investors though. It’s only when they get public do they get funding from society in general. But by that stage they are no longer a startup.
Correct and usually what’s recommended is that people should switch jobs every couple of years for a 15-30% hike. Your existing company won’t give it, but if you shift, there’s a high chance you will get it every 2 years - until it plateaus.
Yep. It’s high risk high reward.
Lemmy is just reddit refugees and the FOSS nerds. This place needs more people.
That’s an extremely narrow view point I’d say. In my country the government promotes the growth of existing big corporations so that there can be more jobs and infrastructure development - but this has in the end lead to a widening of gap and has essentially only made the rich even richer.
I genuinely believe promoting start ups is better for the middle class than big corporations, as usually startups pay a crazy amount of money if you ask for it compared to what a big rich corpo would give you (ironically).
Actually they tried the normal way, where they didn’t shoot and asked the poachers to surrender / tried to arrest them. But the rangers would get shot and the animals would continue to get poached.
Seeing this as a problem, a new executive order / law was passed allowing shoot at sight orders at national parks / protected zones.
Poaching has reduced, the number of rangers getting shot has reduced. The number of poachers getting shot has reduced (they don’t wanna fuck around anymore).
Overall it has increased peace.
Yes, this is why financial crimes and financial crime laws don’t exist in rich countries!! Oh…
Pretty sure it’s satire. A country that made Ninja assassin’s surely can’t have such concepts.
Agreed, only reason I suggested this is because as a lawyer, you will at most practice in just one district. In a country with thousands of districts. Even then you may not get a lot of clients who you seek to help against unjust laws, because they have to select you too and it’s a free market. Would just be impractical to make a big difference.
In that case it sounds like you would have been better off being a politician (they make the laws), judge (you can give minimal sentences) or just a lobbyist / non-profit.
If you became a criminal defence lawyer, I can tell you that most of your clients would be ones who have committed crimes. Only a few would be ones who haven’t. The work is still fun and you should remember that the standard of evidence is “innocent until proven guilty”. More often guilty people go scott free than innocent people getting convicted(happens, but if you are even a little competent, it’s almost impossible).
A lot of times the police also concocts stories and twists facts. It’s also one of the very few professions where there is a person dedicated to making sure you fail at your job(the opposing counsel). With all this, you have to be very smart and cold. They will use everything against you. And remember, the world is always “grey” and never black and white. You can find dirt on even the likes of Gandhi (racist against blacks and also slept with his 16 year old niece) and Nelson Mandela. No one is “pure” or “good”. It’s all a spectrum.
Yes. Expect lot of karma farmers where identity exists and value is given to it.
As a lawyer I feel the same about people not reading contracts and signing stuff or just clicking the accept button. But hey, that’s just how it is unfortunately.
I’m gonna need a source on that
India isn’t, it’s a 3 trillion economy for a billion plus people. Per capita that’s very low. India recently did a lot of expeditions to try and find oil but had no luck. There are a lot of spices (which were just stolen for years by colonial powers) but the value of those has reduced compared to newer technologies like semiconductors.
China has just become rich recently, there should be a decline / easing of pressure on people in the next few years / decades.
The artists aren’t going to get more money. Just that the consumer won’t have their music now.
