I’m of the stance that it doesn’t actually matter at all if you give a platform up, it’s just the overall amount of time that does. So imo there’s no reason to not keep going to reddit for the stuff you can only find there.

That’s actually a really good tip! I still get criticised all the time for apparently trying to one-up everyone else and hog all the attention, and I’ve never been able to figure out how to prevent it. Maybe I need to point more focus into how I’m expressing a shared interest in something, because I definitely go to a “me too! Let me add…” approach by default.

Most people at my workplace actually appreciate the my thorough explanations. I did have an issue crop up with one of the juniors on my team though. He talked to my boss about it who then talked to me without naming me, but I explained the situation to my boss who presumably relayed it to the junior, and I eventually figured out it was him and was able to adjust accordingly.

The issue was that since I really was more technical advanced than him, thus my higher role, my tendency to explain issues so thoroughly including context he saw as obvious was leading him to believe I was intentionally patronizing him and mocking his inexperience.

At this stage I think it’s smoothed over, simply with us settling on a mutual understanding. I take extra care to minimise info dumping and he keeps in mind that I’m not intentionally trying to insult his intelligence when I inevitably fail.

That’s one hell of a long running sentence right there.

A tip if you’re used to old reddit and use desktop, check out old.lemmy.world. It as a dark mode like reddit enhancement suite adds to old reddit, and everything is exactly where I expect it to be based on my reddit experience. Since you’re already using a lemmy.world account, it’ll just work for you straight away.

Oh and also, you’ll see that you can list things as “all,” “local,” or “subscribed.” You can pretty much ignore local, and use all or subscribed as your main page.

Honestly agreed. I hate that we don’t have a good open alternative to YT, but as long as you can afford it buying premium seems like a decent alternative.

Hot sorting normally has some weight put towards new posts so they show up occasionally. I think on lemmy right now the weight of new posts is just way too high.

I tend to stick to top in time period, and use hot as a smarter version of sort by new.

Protip for when you do need to reference a short like that: just replace /shorts/ in the url with /v/ and it’ll be a standard youtube video, just in a vertical format.

Imo continuing to use reddit is a lot better than using Facebook. As many issues as you may have with Reddit as a company, Meta is far worse.

It would be best to watch at least one of the main shows first, just to understand the lore and setting, but there won’t be any direct plot tie-ins or anything like that.

If you do want to just watch one show for the background, I’d recommend Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works if you like more shounen-y shows, or Fate/Zero if you prefer darker and grittier shows, with heavier themes. Either one works fine as an entry point.

It’s a franchise that all stems from the Fate/Stay Night Visual novel. The visual novel had three different routes, which have their own names as the subtitles (eg Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works is an adaptation of the UBW route of the VN). There’s also a darker and more serious prequel called Fate/Zero. Beyond that there are an absolute ton of spinoffs like this set in alternate timelines. Think of it like marvel comics, it’s basically the same deal, and the same “asking for watch order is mostly pointless” rule applies.

To start out, you want to watch Fate/Stay Night UBW (on the shounen side) and Fate/Zero (much more on the darker seinen side) in any order. Then you wanna watch the Fate/Stay Night Heaven’s Feel movie trilogy. Or if you’re really keen then I still think the 100hr Fate/Stay Night VN is the best entry point, if you have the patience or are into VNs in general.

After that, watch whatever you want. Each unique spinoff series is a separate Fate/whatever, and can be watched without worrying about watching Fate/anything else. Starting with the original stuff is only really good because it establishes lore that the spinoffs will assume you know, but even they can be skipped if you really wanna get into a specific spinoff show.

It’s giving me strong ~2013 reddit vibes, which I always thought was around the peak of the site to be honest.

I think the community system starts to break down once the platform gets too big. As reddit grew, all of the big r/all subs lost any sort of identity and became the same amorphous community copy/pasted over and over.

The downside is that we don’t have as much niche content yet, but we’ll see how it’s looking in a year or so.

I don’t think it’s the start, but I think something’s happening. The internet has just been through an incredibly stable period for 10 years or so, but I that finally came to an end a year or 2 back. There have been lots of smaller social media platforms popping up for a while now, and I think the landscape is finally becoming less stable and more dynamic again.

Imo both sides of this argument are way overblown. If Karma scores affected you that much, positively or negatively, you should be taking a long break from social media and having a chat with a counsellor.

I don’t mean that as an insult, it really is the kind of thing that only matters if you’ve gone so far terminally online that it’s seriously affecting your mental health.
