it can be helpful to consider the thought as bad as the action for the purpose of weeding that behaviour out of our lives. Not that the thought is as bad as the action, because clearly it isn’t.
Considering how many (ex)Christian folks struggle with guilt for having “impure thoughts”, that appears to be a flawed approach. You can’t control what kinds of thoughts spontaneously appear in your mind. Imo you should simply be aware that these thoughts are separate from your intentions and actions towards that person, and don’t guide those actions.
Keep in mind that the Bible treats adultery as property crime against the father or husband of that particular woman. If you try to apply Jesus’ teachings to infidelity specifically, you must wrestle with a bunch of historical and cultural baggage. Nothing wrong with treating a story as inspirational, but again, be aware that you’re making Jesus more cool and progressive than he probably deserves.
Yeah, Jesus is prone to hyperbole, agree on that.
Counter point: literally the next two verses
31 “It was also said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’
32 But I say to you that anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Not to mention that “adultery in his heart” is essentially thought-crime, which I personally find rather unchill and not based.
Actually, it can be there, but then you won’t know how fast it’s moving.
Nice argument, unfortunately I don’t care about laws of physics
Looks like Delta will be one of the first, but I don’t think it’s available just yet.
I think “Nintendo” should be treated like a plural noun because they consist of many lawyers.
Nice try kiddo, but sloth is a sin 😎
A blank template for your duneposting needs (I pulled it from a trailer so the frames don’t quite match, but image quality is better)
Lemmy users delivering Taylor Swift memes to c/lemmyshitpost:
If you’re worried about random exes and repacs, I’ll let you know that there is a DRM-free GOG version of Disco Elysium. Of course you still need to make sure you’re downloading it from a reputable source, but it’s basically as good as it gets from safety standpoint.
Wowee someone reposted my meme. Does this mean I’m Lemmy famous? @Sine_Fine_Belli@lemmy.world
I’m pretty sure the article is referring to the 1.6 patch, also called Edgerunners update, which released around the same time as the animated series.
Great, some nightmare fuel to refill my nightmare tank.
Unity executives kind of forgot they can’t change US law on a whim like they changed their Terms Of Service.
I guess you could leave a sticky note on driver’s window that says something like “oopsie woopsie I noticed your tires are deflated, this car is unsafe to drive :(”. Also you could just unscrew the valve core to make sure tires deflate quickly.
To me the issue lies with the person who steps into a teleporter and stops existing, not the one that walks out on the other side. If anything, if the cloned person retained their memory it would probably make them feel better about this whole thing.
As for the original person, they would lose consciousness as their bodies are being disassembled… and then what exactly? It feels like there’s a missing step between Person A losing consciousness and Person A’ waking up.
Though I guess you experience something similar every time you fall asleep, and personally it doesn’t feel much like dying.
Yes, and in neither case would you experience your consciousness being moved to a new body (which is what the commenter above seems to suggest). Your current “you” would be annihilated or just continue to exist in your old body.
Alright, but now instead of disintegrating and reconstructing, consider if a similar machine just duplicated your body atom for atom. Is that “you”, or a clone?
Isn’t it fascinating how you can talk honestly about religious texts when you’re not bound by dogma? Fundamentalists hate this one simple trick.
