I think a simple solution to this problem would be to be able to integrate several subscribed communities into a single timeline, similar to Mastodon Lists.
I would call this feature ‘Mingling’ :)

I have been on Mastodon for just over a year and am really enjoying the relaxed and polite atmosphere compared to the Birdsite
I was made aware of Lemmy a week ago and it has been a real eye opener. Prior to that, I had no interest in Reddit at all, mainly because I didn’t understand its purpose
Ecosia on my tablet because of nice integrated browser and DuckDuck+Firefox on the PC
Am also checking out Brave on PC at the moment
I have both and ancient Notebook and a Pi2 running Raspberry Pi Desktop
The emphasis in on general purpose. They are not blindingly fast, but for everyday office and browsing stuff they are really nice
