  • Welcome to late-stage capitalism, where companies sell what you do not want to buy. e.g., no wired connection has ever once had this problem, but they had to sell more thingies, so now everything is bluetooth, whether it should be or not, plus it seems like nobody ever bothered to finish implementing bluetooth - e.g., this exact issue you are having, which surely could be fixed except… why bother, when you (& your neighbors) have already bought all the thingies?

  • I literally cannot recall the last time I downvoted something here…

But also people tend to be far more friendly here, or at least reasonable. Except for the outright trolls who I simply block and move on (on Reddit there were simply too many to count - basically every post and even comment I would just come to expect it almost guaranteed). I am on Kbin btw so probably a lot of the worst instances on Lemmy are already blocked for me.:-)

  • Not just right now - it was probably always that way. At one point those nations needed STEM e.g. engineers to win those (cultural) wars, while now we are gearing up to use robots and AI instead.

Even so, I think the loss of antibiotics is more of a short sighted side effect. It could need a century of development to overcome, but it is more profitable to sell pain relief right now so… it’s a problem for a future generation to have to deal with, so long as I get mine now, seems to be the way of thinking.
