Hey, hey, we have paid sick days. Some places. It’s just they give us about 5 days per year and after that we have to dip into our PTO. Which we get maybe 2 weeks of per year. Because we are so much better and more free than those European commies!

Everything those other fellows mentioned, plus great stuff like: the manager making me shave my facial hair off before allowing me to work; getting put on 12-hr shifts back to back even though they knew I was a student and had classes; staff expecting me to know everything about the table numbers and layout on my first day and getting pissed when I didn’t; also the amazing capitalist culture of Trying Super Hard So I’ll Be A Line Chef/Mgr One Day and all that comes with it.

I quit after two days and never looked back.

For me retail was terrible, fast food was a special type of hell. But working as a busser was far and away the worst and strangest work experience I’ve ever had

People seemed to have no trouble dropping Gaiman after his horrendous behavior came to light, but even suggest people drop their beloved nostalgia books and it’s all “but my blorbo! JK bad I guess, but I like my blorbo!”.

The sad part is that the HP-verse is so clearly not for us – that is, not for anyone besides straight white liberal Christians. The stereotypes, the handwaves, the defense of the status quo. But people choose to engage with and perpetuate this media anyway.

People would rather just enjoy the blorbo than take a stand against what it represents/supports. Comfort is “easier” than tension.
