I remembered back in the day cruising around different chat room on mIRC and getting kicked and banned with the message Potty Mouth for saying “it’s a bit chilly” about the weather… Took me so long to work out their shit filter picked up (bit ch)illy
Now I’m nostalgic for IRC.
At an old, job our systems couldn’t accept Scunthorpe as a location. Always got a chuckle.
Reminds me of old XBL trolling where people set their in game name to “Xbox Off” so people would say the name out loud and turn their console off.
Was that really a thing? ><
Must have been an Xbox One with Kinect thing.
I can’t remember if it was the XBONE or the 360. It’s pretty old tho.
I measure time in memes, bro. 1 month is old. A year is like ancient history. 🤷🏻♂️
Sucks because you had to drink a verification can after saying it.
Good old bash.org vibes.
Never seen that website before but lost myself reading random pastas there for a while.
Thanks!
I used to check it when it was active and they were adding things to the Top 100-200 quotes, and now I check it for nostalgia. Still makes me laugh all these years later.
<AzureDiamond> wait, how do you know my pw? <Cthon98> er, I just copy pasted YOUR ******'s and it appears to YOU as hunter2 cause its your pw <AzureDiamond> oh, ok.
Nailed it
huh?
The joke was that if you typed your password into chat, then chat would add ***** for everyone else but still show you your own password.
So for instance if I type my password out ******** it will show as just *s to you because it’s auto censored by the system since it’s my password. But it wont censor it for me since it knows that I already know my own password. You can test it by typing out your password. You’ll see your own password but everyone else will just see *'s
I’m guessing that link is still blue for you
I’m very confused by the site, is it just people posting fake conversations?
These are old IRC chats, a kind of Hall of Shame for public conversations… before social media really perfected the art.
Pretty sure it was supposed to be funny chatroom logs?
99% of entries there are faked.
They make me laugh though.
I’d be inclined to agree… But I’ve had conversations like these, if not publicly.
This one about not being able to find a machine (http://bash.org/?5273) is relatable if you’ve ever had to trace cable in a rat’s nest of a server closet.
Chat version of swatting
Ciggy, duh.
