Why are core numbers no longer climbing? I want 32 or 64 cores in consumer chips.
Maybe Amdahl’s Law is in consideration at this point? Either way, for most consumers there’s no need for more cores, and CPUs are made to be sold. I’m guessing at this point gaming performance is one of the most important metrics to differentiate a consumer CPU, so it makes sense that adding more cores is not a priority in that regard.
Honestly we could use a swing in the other direction if we’re talking gaming. Half the shit coming out even these days only uses one core, and I bet it’ll get worse as the death spiral of AAA studios continues.
Hmm, no 9800x. Disappointing. There’s no way I’m paying $500 for a CPU.
