I had a conversation once with a guy who would probably self identify as libertarian, in the “I want to smoke weed, own a gun, and not have to pay taxes” sense of the word. The point of entry was that he’s a pretty big Star Trek fan.

I asked him if he would rather live in the Blade Runner future or the Star Trek future. He said Star Trek future, no contest. And I said “Yeah, well you know the biggest difference between the two is that in Star Trek we basically solved the inherent problems of capitalism, and in Blade Runner we didn’t.”

And he said “Well, yeah, but—” and I swear I saw a wheel turn just a little click in his head. And ever since that conversation I feel like he’s been just a little bit more open to the idea that putting some goddamn reins on capitalism already might be a good idea.

You made him put more thought into his politics than he ever had in a sentence lol. Though to be a bit nitpicky, they solved capitalism by getting rid of it for their polity. They engage in trade with non federation societies (seemingly) only when necessary

Anarcho-capitalist is an oxymoron. Private property cannot exist without a state.

This is rich coming from a communist. Like, yacht rich. So rich that I think you should feel bad and maybe think about leaving some irony for the rest of us next time.

But communism isn’t a dictatorship. Karl Marx defined communism as stateless. A dictatorship can never be communist.

The old book says a thing, I guess that means the Soviet Union and every other communist country never happened or didn’t count because of totally legitimate reasons. Thank you so much for clearing that up.

If you’re going to believe propaganda that says the Soviet Union was communist, then you’d better be fair and believe the propaganda that says North Korea is democratic.
