Hey, I know that all relationships are different and I’m not looking for direct advice, but just curious as to how other people have experienced this.
My partner has audhd and has said many times that I am their safe person. They struggle making friends and don’t have much of a family so (to me) a lot of pressure has fallen on me in that role.
I am looking to step away from the relationship but whenever I talk to my partner, she follows our conversations with a meltdown and says she doesn’t have a safe person and doesn’t feel safe any more.
Can anyone explain their experiences with this and things that may have been helpful or things that made it worse?
Thank you

In law school, we have this concept called “assumption of the risk.” When you go skydiving, you know it’s a possibility that you could land wrong and break your leg. You assumed the risk of injury when you chose to engage in a risky behavior. When you choose to wait til the last minute to leave, you know it’s a possibility that you could hit traffic and be late. Likewise, when you enter a relationship, you know there’s a chance it’s going to end in heartbreak. That’s the risk that you choose to take when you want to love.
how do you “choose” to take said risk? as in the “you choose to take [the risk] when you want to love” - are people switching their wants on/off whenever?
If you enter a relationship you have to consider there may also be an exit. When you enter the relationship you take on the risk of it ending and ending in hurt feelings
