Two firefighting helicopters collided mid-air while battling a massive wildfire west of Athens, triggering a major search and rescue operation in Greece’s western Attica region. The Bell-type aircraft, leased by the Greek Fire Service, crashed during aerial water-dropping missions as strong winds complicated operations. At least one helicopter went down in a forest, igniting fresh flames. Each aircraft carried a two-person crew, and rescue teams later located both crews. The wildfire has already forced evacuations of villages, industrial zones, and coastal communities, with hundreds of firefighters continuing efforts to contain the fast-moving blaze under difficult weather conditions.
