Forgive me if this is yesterday’s news to some of you, but I just found this amazing replacement for the proprietary Japanese keyboard simeji: sumire

That’s all.

Also, if anybody here happens to already use it and know whether it’s possible to adjust this somewhat ugly disproportionate toolbar, please advise!

I can’t believe my eyes, a japanese keyboard with a 12 key layout that doesn’t bombard you with online sync shit like Simeji or Google.

I will take a look at it ASAP, thank you for the recommendation.

EDIT: Why the first GitHub release is v1.7.93? Is this a fork of other project? It looks like history was erased at some point? I’m also checking the branch names and the project looks heavily vibe coded sadly (Copilot and Codex usage), so I’ll be cautious with this one.

I’ve been using it for a while, haven’t noticed the candidate box margins being weird until you mentioned it.

You can make the font for the candidate box larger to fill the unoccupied space, but that sounds like a bad solution.

It’s developer opened an issue for improving that part of the keyboard not that long ago, probably there is something in the works. You may want to voice your concerns there.
