    It’s responding to the persistent propaganda narrative that modernizing poverty-stricken rural areas of China like Tibet and Xinjiang is somehow a “cultural genocide.” By providing education, modern technology, and resources to these areas, it’s been argued that the people in these areas are somehow lesser for joining the 21st century.

    Also the criticism of China daring to increase its electricity consumption as it raises 800 million people out of extreme poverty, instead of cutting back on energy usage like Europe is (ignoring that China still uses less than 1/10th the energy usage per capita, 1/2 per capita in rich areas.)
