A popular tool on Windows - Cheat Engine recently gained a Linux version, so you can mess with your games under Linux now too.

Absolutely would have moved the needle towards Linux for 12-year-old me. (Already on Linux now.)

This must be the year of the Linux desktop.

I think it’s going to be the century of the Linux desktop the way things are going with the big tech companies right now. Age verification can fuck right off and only open source is going to give you any possibility of choice in the matter, laws be damned.

Does this also consequently mean it’s the Microsoft Century of Humiliation?

Pretty cool, got me wondering how cheat engine actually works with memory translation and process isolation. I read through this article which was a good overview. https://www.guardingpearsoftware.com/blog/ever-wondered-how-cheat-engine-works-extended-41008

Hopefully someone does a similar one for linux

You can also use Pince: https://github.com/korcankaraokcu/PINCE

The fact it requires supporting the patreon to obtain kinda sucks for people who aren’t able to afford it, like me right now.

I personally would love to have it specifically for the speedup feature since I don’t know if any of the other alternatives have anything like it.

I tried this thing called PINCE, it worked dead simple for memory editing. IIRC it now has the speedup too

That’s huge if true! Last time I looked into it, I couldn’t find anything like it. But it has been a while since I last checked. Definitely gonna take a look!

I think, they tend to publish a version that doesn’t require patreon after some time, but I may be wrong

I kinda hope so, even if that means waiting for the next major release. I legitimately have no other use for it besides the speedhack thing, so I’d be down to either wait or support it to get a copy when I can.

This is awesome I was just looking for something like this for Linux. PINCE did the job and came close but the community support around Cheat Engine is where is shines.

Wouldn’t something like this piss off distros with SElinux?
