Which channels should I subscribe to? The goal is to make my YouTube feed so useless I’ll never want to touch it again. Suggest channels, and I’ll subscribe to all of them, no questions asked. Give me the channels that make you question humanity, and I’ll handle the rest. Drop your worst channel suggestions here, and I’ll subscribe to all of them. Now is your opportunity to make my YT feed even worse than it already is.

Some background

This is a reference to my earlier post. About two months ago, I decided to subscribe to anyone who asks. Turns out, most channels don’t even bother asking any more. Maybe they know how little it matters.

My feed was still too functional, so I knew needed to up my game. While doing household chores, I started putting on some pointless trash videos and ignoring them. I also subscribed to all the background channels I wasn’t even watching. Sadly, that wasn’t enough to ruin my feed. What’s next? My feed needs more idiot nonsense channels, so it’s time to go nuclear and ask the internet.

My conclusions so far

Subscriptions seem play a minor role, but that idea needs to be tested properly. It’s too early to tell just yet. The home page and sidebar recommendations are mostly from channels I’ve never even seen before. If I haven’t subscribed but have liked or commented, those channels get recommended more. If I subscribed but only watched one video and didn’t engage, I might never see that channel again. But how well do those channels get buried? I need to throw more channels into the dark void that is my subscription list. I want to stress-test test idea properly by subscribing to even more channels. Throw all your dumbest channel suggestions here, and I’ll take it from there.

Yeah but why though?

YouTube already sucks, but it can suck more. The more I hate it, the less I’ll use it. This is my twisted way of ditching YouTube permanently. It might take a while, but once my feed is beyond repair, there’s no turning back.

Any post formatted like this one looks like it was spat out by a model…

Just don’t block the ads or pay for premium. That makes YT so thoroughly unenjoyable you’ll be on TikTok in no time.

I would browse the front page not logged in to find more algo-pushed trash that YouTube thinks are addictive. I’d also unsubscribe from anything you actually enjoyed and use the options to have YouTube not recommend more of it to you.

When I initially started this experiment, the first thing was to unsubscribe from everything I had actually found worth watching in the past. Then, I wanted to check what’s going on in the “trending page”, only to find out it no longer exists. No wonder why. It only had stuff that was apparently very popular to millions of people, but it never had anything I wanted to click, let alone spend time watching. Apparently, that was also true for many other people since YT got rid of the whole thing. That would have been my go-to solution.

Anyway, the not logged in front page is probably the next best thing. I’ll give that a try. Thanks!.

Since Thumbnails/Titles make up the way in which you’ll be turned off by your feed, If you’re like me and don’t like being clickbaited at with “subtextual misinformation”, I suggest Veritasium.

I think subscribing to all of those “sleepy time” AI generated channels would do it for me. They put out a new 2+ hour video a day full of absolute inaccuracies, so not only is it slop but it’s profoundly misinformative slop. But honestly I don’t want you to sub to them, it only encourages them all

Fair enough. Besides, I already have many slop channels I don’t watch. Meaning, I played on video while doing the dishes, subscribed to it, and never heard from it again. There are surprisingly many channels that were created about a month ago, have only 15 subscribers, and those videos have like, 5 views, zero likes and zero comments. I find those kinds of channels all the time now. However, If I subscribe to all of them, they might become big enough to ruin YT for everyone else as well. I see that as a win-win situation.

      Subscribed!
Gotta say, I didn’t have any cooking stuff in my feed. Like, none at all, because I couldn’t care less.
The food I make is super simple, because I ignore all recipes, so what good is a cooking show to me. I’ll just wing it by throwing in some tasty ingredients in a pot and calling it a meal. Just add and heat, time and agitation. Works every time.
