Honestly I feel like government investment is the way to go for operating systems. They are something that everyone needs (assuming they live digitally) just like schools or the fire department. And governments are sort of the operating system of society anyway
At the same time you also have many people who will claim that software with government contribution is automatically compromised.
I feel like that argument is moot if the source is open

This is great news and I’m so happy it isn’t going to the toxic GNOME

KDE members have also been seen calling people fascists and nazis, so there’s that. Personally I try to steer clear of any projects with such drama.
