Fireman carry is more achievable for more people, both hoister and hoistee.
Princess carry is… you have to have much more developed upper body and core strength to do that, and its much easier to injure both or either involved party.
With a fireman carry, the center of gravity of both people is much better supported by being closer to the hoister’s center of gravity, and its over top of the hoister’s center of gravity.
With a princess carry, the hoistee is just totally off from the center of the hoister’s mass, so your core has to hold your back from bending, and your arms are doing way, way more work, as its basically a class 2 lever situation for your forearms, and a class 3 lever situation for your upper arms.
This indeed does lead to dropping people, and is more likely to injure the hoister due to the mechanical physics of it being so unbalanced and thus over-demanding.
You always want to do a heavy lift by involving as many of your major muscle groups as possible, in as close to equal proportions as possible.
What if I’m not strong enough to princess-carry my wife?
I haven’t tried, but it looks difficult and scared I’ll drop her
