Hi all, does anyone know of a good alternative to games like Wordle, Connection, and Skrbbl? Self-hosting puzzle and party games would be fun I think. Preferably options that have intuitive UI (else no one will use them!)
I have found a couple options, awesome selfhosted mentions scribble(dot)rs which seems pretty cool. Awesome selfhosted also suggests “word-mastermind”, and the demo instance is down, is it any good? (a quick search shows a bazillion Wordle clones that people have made as a programming challenge. If I had the time I might try making my own, but I have loads of schoolwork on my plate right now)
I think this is the one I use, reactle - a clone of the OG wordle before nyt bought them:

I have it as a docker on TrueNAS.
Virtualtabletop can be selfhosted.
We use it to play Blokus, Rummikub and more with family all over the country. All a player needs, is a device with a browser, and a link to join a given table. Grandma uses an android tablet to play Rummikub with us.
The games already implemented are many, and you can contribute your own.
That’s pretty cool!
this doesn’t help if you’re not in the xmpp ecosystem, but in the android app cheogram, you can play a nice handful of games in chats!
Fortunately its super easy to get into XMPP, especially with apps like Cheogram as they offer easy account creation.
@sbird there is a bot i use with discord which has many such games, you can self host the bot but it works with discord. Not a 100% self-hosted solution but you may find it useful.

Unfortunately I don’t use Discord, hopefully somebody else finds them useful!
