Personally, it didn’t kill the hype for me. Better that they split it up, instead of trying to cram everything into the original final season. I think the biggest mistake was naming it Final Season to be honest. If it wasn’t named Final Season, I don’t think anyone would’ve bat an eye.
I’m more disappointed in how AoT didn’t seem to get the priority from Mappa or whoever it should’ve gotten.

This is it. They should not have named it final season. Once they named it final season, that was an expectation set, and they keep on changing the expectation in the most annoying way. I would have preferred them cram everything into a terrible final season than edging us like this for 3 years.

Really? With, as a likely consequence, a massive drop in quality because of a rush job? I think the reaction would’ve been much worse than what it is now

We already got that with all the CGI that Mappa pushed in. Was it good for being CGI? Sure, but it was still a marked downgrade from what was in previous seasons
Oh yea, on the animation front I 100% agree with that, especially for the 1st part. It’s a shame WIT didn’t want to do it anymore. Same for Sawano not doing the music anymore.
However, if they didn’t split it up, I think it would’ve suffered worse. For example, part 2 was already a step up from part 1 in terms of animation.
But that’s only the animation. The story would’ve suffered the most if they rushed.
Of course, in the ideal world they would’ve done neither and planned their projects properly to give them enough time to finish it in 1 go.
Can I ask why? I can’t get my head around why someone would want a botched version of something over a (way) longer than planned release schedule, but done more properly.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very disappointed in Mappa too for the way they handled this, but not so much to stop watching AoT, because the story is still amazing.
Because I’d rather it be ruined quickly by low quality than ruined over the course of 3 years by a shit release schedule. I’m extremely pessimistic of the anime at this point because of how much they fucked up its ending by calling it Final Season and continuing to push “Final” more and more over 3 years.
At least PN2 was just a few episodes before I realized “oh I don’t really care about this”, rather than my disdain being pulled out of me by whatever idiot decided this was the way.

In what way is it being ruined right now?
because of how much they fucked up its ending by calling it Final Season
Agreed, that was a big fuck up, but I don’t see how it actually ruined the ending, aside from being disappointed it didn’t actually end yet, which iirc, they announced while it was airing.

I mean, they can’t very well call it something else afterwards.
Yeah as long as they’re finally finishing it. Parting it out over several years like they did just killed the hype.

I literally would have preferred it to be a Promised Neverland Season 2 than this release schedule.
