We can offer as much pressure as we want, they’re the only game in town. So long as the Democrats have a monopoly on opposition to the Republicans they’ve got no incentive to actually oppose them. If they rendered the Republican party electorally obsolete then they’d be faced with third parties from all sides while losing their one unassailable reason for existing and having to appeal to their actual policies on merit.
