Twenty-one years ago he proved it with Punch-Drunk Love.
Was going to say exactly this.
Sandler is the epitome of DGAF. Love him for it.
I always just knew him as that guy from shitty movies, but seeing him and others from that “crew” on Norm MacDonald’s shows made me realize they’re incredibly funny, and just DGAF about the films.
Reign Over Me, too.
Spanglish was a good flick too
Oh yeah. I always forget about that one. The only scene I remember is when he makes a midnight egg sandwich, and I always get hungry thinking about it.
Funny People, Hustle
That movie Hustle from last year was pretty damn good too
Guy is playing 5D chess.
Picks elaborate locations to film and brings his friends to visit/act (plus his family for a studio paid vacation) + picks pretty leading women to play his love interests in all his films.
By most accounts, he makes his “shitty” movies because he’s bored or one of his friends needs a job. Any major actor in Hollywood is, barring insane lifestyle stuff, rich enough to never work again.
I would legitimately like to work on one of his films. I feel like it’d be a blast.
You shut your mouth! Waterboy was 10/10, same for Happy Gilmore!
I liked 50 first dates. The premise was interesting
Based on true story as well
Uncut Gems is one of the most stressful experiences in my life
Agreed. It’s like if coke got bored and decided to snort itself.
I’ve always felt like he was a great actor when someone else is directing him. His best movies happen when someone else gets him to preform instead of just him and his buddies trying it on their own.
I’d also add Punch Drunk Love to his list of unexpectedly serious movies
I’ve always enjoyed Sandler movies. Probably because I expected exactly what what promised on the tin. A lot of slapstick dumb comedy.
In case you don’t know, he is happy that he’s able to do these little dumb movies and every time they are filming him and his friends basically treat it like a paid vacation.
I unironically think that Adam Sandler is a good actor tbh
