Salt Lake City kicked off the city's Fourth of July weekend with its drone show instead of a fireworks display on Saturday.
I wish this would catch on, because fireworks suck. It wouldn’t stop the assholes in neighborhoods from shooting them off though, since fireworks will be probably be cheaper and easier for individuals for a long time.
Just last night a bunch of assholes started shooting off fireworks at midnight in the park down the street, louder than even on the fourth, scaring our cat shitless.
People who do that are such losers. Bottom of the barrel.
Drone shows are so much better than fireworks.
They don’t force everyone within a large vicinity to experience them against their will because they are not ridiculously loud.
They won’t have such an incredible detrimental effect on animals, both wildlife and domestic.
They are less dangerous.
But of course the average dumbass needs things to go boom in order to have a fun time.
We can make arguments against this without shitting on people for enjoying things
Twin Cities had a laser show in the rotation. I’m curious how that stacks up against drones, as I never heard if it needed a backdrop or some shit

I do not know about drone shows… arguments posted here are good on ratio, like polluting and the type of ppls involved. But I must confess that all the drone shows I have seen I found quite plain to be honest. Fireworks do still offer more for the senses. Beside the visual, the sound of fireworks is so much more diverse then only the bzzzz of a group bees. The sound delay from fireworks gives much more tension/excitement. The smell is something I also like somehow. All the senses get a bit more to handle which is interesting to watch/listen/smell fireworks.
I think drone shows could learn from that and be way better by combining drones with picoprojectors or combining a lasershow with smoke blasts. Or combine also some fireworks with drones. Maybe place subwoofers on drones and create a sound pallet. There is enough combinations to think of as long as there is some spark.
Aside the droneshow firework show, I totally agree on blocking the egocentric people that blast away with fireworks during a random night or towards people
