Then their ‘Buy’ and ‘Purchase’ buttons are false advertising. ‘Rent’ is the word they’re looking for.
This excuses piracy.
And whenever I want to pay for a game, I will do it through GOG.
Hard to even want to support gog, with the Nazi stunt
What did I miss? 😳
Tl;Dr
Sent out very Nazi symbology
Got feedback from German qa that it was Nazi symbology
Removed it only from the German emails and sent the Nazi symbology to everyone else
Oops sorry when they got called out
You’re being very disingenuous. Did you read the article?
The Sowilo rune is part of my cultural and historical heritage. As a Pole, I am fully aware of both its history and the sensitivities surrounding it. Its use in this promotion was intended solely as a reference to the sun, which is central to the game being promoted. What was displayed in several devices as doppelrune is out of our control. ᛋ was displayed as ϟ on several devices (might display for you differently here as well just letting you know). We should pay more attention to checking it on different systems and devices. I also recognise that placing two such runes next to each other could create an unfortunate association with symbols used by the Nazi regime. This was noticed before distribution, and out of respect for local sensitivities, the material was not sent to the German community.
At the same time, I do not believe that symbols with a history spanning more than a thousand years should be defined solely by their misuse in the modern history. Allowing that would mean accepting that those who corrupted these symbols now own their meaning. As a Pole, I have every reason to treat this history with seriousness and respect. Precisely because of that, I reject any suggestion that this promotion carried an extremist message. It did not. It was a reference to the historical symbol of the sun, nothing more.
If it’s so non-sus, then why self censored lol
I’m not being disingenuous, I’m just being less charitable than the author of that article. The point of a dogwhistle is that it has plausible deniability.
Remind me to pirate sony games.
This matches my experience exactly.
If the button said “Buy” or “Purchase”, ownership of that item is transferred (obviously not the IP itself). After you buy it, the supreme court has weighed in that you can make your own backups of “media” previously so Sony can fuck right off.
SCOTUS has endorsed the terms and conditions they make you sign and allowed them to do things like making you waive your right to sue and instead use binding arbitration of their choosing, and making you agree to not actually own this as such.
What you say was true 26 years ago or more, it’s not now. We are well on to our way of owning nothing and renting everything we own in truth even if not in law.
True, but while I have access to something I back it up by nature. They can probably take it off of something they can access but those devices don’t have access to my whole network so I’m gonna stick with my original thought, Sony can fuck right off.
(Really good points though)
and this is why people pirate. You pay good money for stuff you don’t even own.
Stuff like this drives the motivation behind console modders.
Then, I purchase no games, which I cannot own anyway. Good riddance. I stopped gaming pretty much all the time.
Oh no, how will this affect my offline-PS3 and it’s offline games?? :o
Aaarrrrggghhhh!
The small operators feel this one first, every single time.
Optimistic me thinks they are bringing PS store/library to pc and this is needed. Optimistic me is barely holding on.
They aren’t. The Wall™ is being erected around PSN.
didn’t they announce they were stopping porting games to PC? I liked uncharted 4 so much :P
I dont own a sony or any other console but i dont understand one thing here.
As far as i know, dvd discs and cd-s had about 4GB memory max if am not mistaking. It was long time since we stoped using them.
So how can modern games that are like 200GB in size fit on any cd…? 🤔
New computers don’t even take cd’s anymore. They are shit compared to computers 15 years ago. Less ports, task manager doesn’t work, it’s more awkward to do anything as they made everything less functional.
You can’t take the battery out anymore. If your computer gets compromised you are supposed to just let them spy on you I suppose, task manager is now worthless for sussing out and stopping malware.
These are all issues that can be fixed with a framework laptop running Linux. I’d recommend the switch to one or both of these things :)
Where are you putting a cd drive in a framework?
Valid point. I was talking more about the ports. Still tho usb cd drives are incredibly cheap and damn reliable.
Sounds like you’re on the cusp of leaving Windows. Excellent.
I recommend Mint.
UHD Blu-rays go up to 100GB so that covers many games, for more than that it’d have to be a digital download I guess
The PlayStation 3 was the first console to use (standard) Blu-rays, 20 years ago :) some people argued it was cheaper than dedicated BD players, many used it to watch movies.
It would also seem people have forgotten the Installation disc that was common towards the the 360 era. The PS3 already copied the whole Blu-ray to storage with the only real difference being it was quicker to copy physical to rely on PSN’s awful bandwidth. A lot of people still have crappy imternet so it makes no sense to take away the option to wait a day for a box with 2 discs to arrive.

We used to deal with games that came as multiple discs. We can do that again, if we have to.
But, I would personally rather see DRM-free digital downloads for many reasons.
That’s just triple layer. Quad layer goes up to 128GB.
