Would you happen to have a link to Epic actually confirming this? Not trying to argue or anything; I’m genuinely curious, and didn’t see a source for the claim in the other post.
There’s plenty of unsourced claims, I found a vague “since developers get a flat fee from Epic so that Epic can offer their game for free” from the Verge, and there are a few specific numbers from a lawsuit a few years ago. So I’m guessing Epic don’t shout about the specific numbers themselves, but it seems to be relatively accepted as truth.

For all those wondering how they could ethically play Hogwarts Legacy a few weeks back… Here it is.
Epic/Tencent have already paid for it whether you get a copy or not - no additional funding will be given to the Hogwarts Legacy publisher/licensee no matter how many copies are given away, and they will recieve no less money if you avoid taking a copy.
Playtime on Epic means number go up.
Sure, it makes the “total number of players you have” number go up, but not the “fraction of players who have ever paid you a single penny” number, which I imagine the business folk care more about
No such thing as bad publicity tho.
Well that’s the price you pay for a free game. I wonder how long they’ll be able to keep it up though, I’d be shocked if they bring in anywhere near enough new customers to justify all the money they must spend on these giveaways.

What? Epic pay a flat, negotiated one time price for the games they offer free.
This isn’t some MMO or brand new game where more players = more hype for sales. Game’s already 3 years old and is single-player… Playtime means jack shit.
If people wanna not play it that’s fine, but you don’t have to twist yourself into a pretzel trying to invent a reason that this is somehow giving JKR more money.
If you haven’t played this yet, just know it’s a game that gets worse as you play it. The initial exploration is pretty fun, but the combat is mediocre. There’s also a ton of puzzle and collectibles for busywork which gets old fast.
Wait I just realized they just had this for free and they came up with an excuse to give it away again?
How desperately do they need players? Does this game have micro transactions?
