As someone who was actually excited for Overwatch 2, man is it just one disappointment after another. From new heroes being locked away behind the battle passes, to the cosmetics system being complete garbage now, to now this… damn. Just damn. I was willing to forgive the three years they spent letting OW1 rot before they completely destroyed it, but everything has just been so bad.
More than anything I’m frustrated that they killed overwatch 1, a game a paid for.
Now I’m not buying anymore games from blizzard nor am I buying any online only games.
Yep, I’ve been playing since 2016 and it’s CRAZY how a skin now will set you back something like 20 euro while they used to be free. We ofcourse knew this was coming with the free to play model but man… It’s just bad decision after bad decision.
I was excited for OW2 as well. I left because of locking heroes behind the battle pass.
Greed has killed Blizzard. They’re like Zerg Kerrigan… they look familiar but they’re corrupted to the core, and everything they do is tainted by it.
I’ve already done my mourning, but it felt awful at the time. Sorry you’re dealing with it now.
I don’t play overwatch, but a friend of mine tried to get a refund since the game he paid for didn’t have any of the PvR content they originally advertised. They declined.
Now I see why. They are planning to double dip.
Unfortunately, I think your friend may have been mistaken. When ow2 released it was free to play, and you could pay for some skins and a battlepass (also access to ow1 if you didn’t have it) but there was never any purchase options for pve, and you did not have to pay for pvp
Umm. Overwatch 2 PvP has always been free to play. Only thing they could’ve ever purchased was cosmetics and add ons for the base free game.
This sucks, but they were upfront when PVE was announced that it would be paid, while PVP would be free.
That doesn’t excuse the PVP effectively not being so free with the hero unlock system, the $20 OW1 skins, or announcing that they’ve reduced the PVE scope to the point of invalidating the point of making a sequel and then STILL charging for it.
But it was always going to be paid.
What I’m waiting to see is whether there’s anything worth paying for here, or if we’re just being milked for the Archives missions we were already getting for free. Blizzard being Blizzard, I’m expecting the latter. This whole thing is just a masterclass in shitting the bed and being surprised when the community recoils.
